OIB Centrifugal Compressor

Single-stage centrifugal compressor

The ROOTS® OIB single-stage centrifugal compressors are designed with an overhung impeller arrangement with its own bearing housing to provide maximum design flexibility. Suitable for a variety of constant-speed or variable-speed drivers.

  • Flows from 5,000 to 250,000 cfm (8495 to 424753 m3/hr)
  • Polytropic heads to 42,000 ft.

Key Features

  • Choice of impeller and casing materials of construction
  • API capability
  • ROOTS Control packages
  • Precise discharge Position: Adjustable in 45° increments, starting at 0° (UP) position
  • Labyrinth, carbon ring, mechanical seal arrangements
  • Variable axial inlet guide or variable peripheral inlet guide

Benefits

  • Centrifugal Compressor Design: Features an overhung style design comprising a rotor assembly, inlet housing, volute, casing cover, and bearing stand. Optional inlet guide vanes enable process control without a variable speed drive or inlet throttling valve. Compliant with API-617 standards.
  • Speed Increasing Gear Box: Designed to elevate the driver input speed to the rated compressor speed. The low-speed shaft can integrate the main oil pump of the lube system if required. Alternatively, the compressor can be supplied without a gear box if the driver can meet the rated speed and power. Meets API-613 requirements.
  • Driver Options: Primary drive options include electric motors, with or without a variable frequency drive, and steam turbines. In certain cases, internal combustion (IC) engines have been employed.
  • Compressor Lube System Options: Three main options are available: integral lube system, console lube system with a separate reservoir, or a separate console shipped loose for installation near the compressor. Lube systems designed to meet API-614 Chapters 2 or 3.
  • Boxed Construction: Utilizes structural supports for bracing and rigidity, with grouting pockets, anchor bolt holes, and leveling screws for additional stability. Incorporates lifting lugs for ease of transportation. Can be supplied with a drip lip and/or non-skid decking.
  • Conditional Monitoring and Local Control: Provides conditional monitoring for the compressor, driver, and lube oil system. The local control panel, whether baseplate-mounted or off-mounted, contains the intelligence for positioning inlet guide vanes. Offers real-time local data through gauges, switches, or transmitters.
